#WCIW: Heidi Klum

Supermodel. Fashion, Television and Halloween Icon. UNICEF Supporter.

Fashion was the stuff of Heidi Klum’s dreams when she was girl. Then, she started owning every catwalk she walked down at the mere age of 18 after winning a life-changing modeling competition in her homeland of Germany. Klum was an iconic Supermodel of the 90s. A Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover and the Victoria’s Secret Angel wings marked her rise to the top. Once there, she parlayed her worldwide fame into fostering young, talented designers and bringing a new spotlight to children’s charity UNICEF.

Most renowned as a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model and for walking the VS fashion show runway for more than a decade, Klum has also made a name for herself on the small and silver screens. Her most notable role has been hosting and producing duties for sixteen seasons and counting of pet project Project Runway. She helped to launch the careers of young designers like Christian Siriano. Klum also brings her unique style and point of view as a judge on America’s Got Talent. Her big screen film credits include Ella Enchanted, Devil Wears Prada and The Life and Death of Peter Sellers

Heidi has also made many charitable contributions throughout her career. She supports AIDS Life, The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, The Elton John AIDS Foundation, and The Red Cross. Her most notable contributions have been to children’s charities, UNICEF in particular. She has frequently auctioned off her red carpet gowns to raise money for the foundation and has been hands-on during UNICEF trips to India and Haiti. Famous for her annual Halloween Bash, Klum auctions off coveted tickets to the event to support UNICEF, as well as hosts Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF events.

Heidi Klum, at 44, shows no signs of slowing down. While she has retired her Victoria’s Secret Angel wings, she continues to model, act, host and inspire. For her decades-long modeling career, her television business sense and her passionate work with UNICEF, Heidi Klum is this week’s #WCIW
