#WCIW: Tory Burch

Billion-dollar Businesswoman. Style icon. Foundation founder.

Tory Burch began her fashion empire in 2004 in her kitchen with an idea and a dream. She knew that there was a niche in the luxury fashion market that was not being filled. In ten years, with the help of her Reva ballet flats, retro-vibe tunics, and signature "double-T" logo, Burch grew her business to a billion-dollar-mega brand while raising three kids.

Over the years, Burch has been featured in every major fashion magazine, been featured on Oprah’s Favorite Things, and won numerous awards in the fashion industry and for her philanthropic works. Through her success, Burch sought ways to give back and to support other women.

In 2009 she founded the Tory Burch Foundation to empower other female entrepreneurs through funding, mentorship, and networking. Each year, from thousands of applicants, around 10 female entrepreneurs are selected to become Tory Burch Foundation Fellows. The Fellows receive three days of intensive courses at the Tory Burch corporate headquarters, a one-year Fellowship with support from the Tory Burch Foundation, a $10,000 grant to advance their business education, and an opportunity to pitch their small business to Tory and a panel of industry leaders for a chance at a $100,000 grant to grow their business. For her business-savvy, creative, and female-powered approach to the fashion industry, Tory Burch is this week's #WCIW.
