Women Who Are Crushing It - Norma Kamali
Innovative inventor. Health-conscious entrepreneur. Bad-ass activist.
Norma Kamali has been designing her signature sportswear, swimwear, and clothes to "make women feel good" for 50 years. In that time, she has remained passionate about empowering women from the outside in. Over the decades, she has received numerous fashion accolades, but she has also been recognized by the White House for her work with Public Schools and her efforts to end the objectification of women.
Kamali started the Stop Objectification campaign because she recognized that objectification is a shared experience of women in every culture in the world. Through education, fitness, and social media, the organization seeks to "turn objectification into empowerment".
The Stop Objectification campaign is currently utilizing social media to empower women by encouraging them to post a photo of their “most powerful body part, with a caption that lets the world know what makes them more. Then bring awareness... telling their stories of objectification, cleanse their emotional soul, and inspire others to do the same!” Readers can upload their photo directly onto the organization’s website or post on social media with the hashtag #StopObjectification. For her admirable career and killer anti-objectification campaign, Norma Kamali is this week's #WCIW.
