Outside Lands Recap
For three days, the natural beauty of Golden Gate Park is transformed into an amazing forest filled with music, art, food and fashion. Returning for the eighth year, the Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival once again delivered unique experiences for all those who attended. Here’s a breakdown of the JD Team’s experience at Outside Lands.
Music: Headliners Mumford and Sons, The Black Keys, Sam Smith …. all delivered killer sets full of popular songs that everyone could enjoy during those cold nights in San Francisco. From singing along to "Tiny Dancer" with the legendary Sir Elton John to some serious tears during Sam Smith's set music fans were delighted to sway along to Mumford & Sons, dance along with the Bay Area’s very own G-Eazy, or turn on their iPhone flashlights for Kendrick Lamar - this year’s Outside Lands was one of the most insane yet!
Food: Eclectic & unique - there’s a taste for everybody. From giant s’mores and chocolate dipped bacon in Choco Lands to Eco Lands where “farm to table” was the main attraction, Watermelon Ale in Beer Lands to Straw’s “Ringmaster” aka Donut Cheeseburger in Lands End - Outside Lands had an impressive line up of almost 80 restaurants, nearly 40 wineries and over 30 breweries. On top of all the good eats, we had a unique experience during Big Freedia’s set where Brenda’s Soul Food was handing out beignets while “releasing the wiggle”.
Art: In addition to being the best food curators in the festival game, Outside Lands also showcases a number of artists working their visual magic on-site for all to see as the weekend progresses. Even better - all graffiti murals are kept and displayed throughout the years!
Fashion: Contrary to popular belief, Outside Lands appropriate wear isn’t all about wearing the latest trends. Being comfortable while rocking your look is key as you’ll need to be able to walk from the Land’s End stage to Twin Peaks & everything in between to dance the night away. Outside Lands fashion is a hodgepodge of clothes that make you feel comfortable and keep you warm for the trek back home, accessories that function as storage, like the infamous fanny pack, and shoes that won’t give you blisters from walking all day.
Until next year ....
