Why we all need one

The “LBD” should be a staple piece in every woman’s closet.  This is the kind of dress that you can wear for any occasion. They are fresh and versatile, especially for spring and summer, and are perfect to wear from morning to night with just a few simple changes.

Here are my four tips on how to style your LBD:

Stick with all black

One thing black is definitely known for is its ability to make any look sleek and modern.  If you are one who likes to style your LBD with more black pieces, here’s the deal: it can be difficult to get all black shades to match. One way to work around this issue is to make sure each shade of black is represented in a distinct material or texture. A faux leather jacket over the LBD, a pair of ankle strap heels, a bold modern pair of earrings and a pop of color with your clutch and you’re ready to head out.

Warm it up

If I wear a black dress during the day or to highlight a softer tone, I always bring in some neutral shades. The beauty of tones like grey, brown and beige is that they not only work with black but when they are paired with black, they create a totally different look. Pair your LBD with shades of cognac, camel, tobacco, whisky, tan and beige. Nude shoes are not only a classic look but are particularly stunning with black.

Play with color

A black dress can serve as a blank canvas on which you can style anything.  The options are truly endless.  If you want to spice it up, add some color...any color.  A bold cobalt blue jacket, a pink pair of heels, a printed scarf or playful necklace.  Ready to play with metallics?  Throw that color over your shoulder with a fun tote this spring and summer...it's a perfect addition that can be carried into this fall.

For a night out

A little black dress can easily be taken from day to evening with some simple changes in how it is accessorized.  This change up will not only maximize the use of one dress but is a great tip for travelers. As my clients know, it is so much easier to bring some extra accessories that it is to pack a whole new outfit.
